Zaz (a.k.a. Isabelle Geffroy) is a singer from France. She has been working on music since she was young and studied at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Tours as a child. In school she learned to play violin, piano and guitar. After a stint in Bordeaux where she focused on her vocal lessons and sports, she moved to Paris in 2006.
Her sound is characterized by her smoky voice. Mixing jazzy styles, French variety, soul and acoustic sounds together, she fits the role of the chanteuse well. Her free-flowing style is always engaging. Take a look at her performing in Montmartre below. She sings “Les Passants” with warm exuberance, while having fun with the other musicians. I’m sure she and her group will impress at globalFEST 2012.
