The Sway Machinery & Khaira Arby – “Youba”
I had the great privilege of seeing Khaira Arby and her band perform at Bard College two summers ago. The performance was like nothing I had ever witnessed live. The energy was incredible and the band was so tight. When they locked into a groove it gave the perfect platform for Khaira to vocalize over. This amazing songstress could knock down a house with her voice. And she seems to channel it so calmly and easily. I wanted that show to never end.
The Sway Machinery were gifted a chance to perform at Mali’s renowned Festival in the Desert. Upon playing there they were so impressed by Khaira they decided they wanted to record with her. I didn’t know what to expect from this as I adore Khaira’s band with her talented young guitarist, but this track “Youba” drives me wild. The drums are like something out of a Led Zeppelin track and the groove sets in nicely. The best news is our friends at Brooklyn-based Electric Cowbell Records have released a nice 7″ single for us to enjoy.
