I discovered Lawson Rollins on National Geographic’s World Music page. Each week they feature a song of the week and I was struck by this guitarist / composer. An American from North Carolina, Lawson Rollins recorded his latest album, Elevation in Iran, Nepal and the United States. Rollins mixes Middle Eastern, Spanish, and Indian musical motifs with World Beat rhythms wrapped up in his distinct modern guitar styling. Featuring a large cast of musicians including Buckethead, Shabin Shahida, Charlie Bisharat and Pejman Eckhtiari, this record goes in many unexpected directions keeping the listener on their toes.
