Looking ahead to globalFEST 2012, we focus on Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, a group from Southern Italy. Based in Puglia, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino attract huge audiences to their energetic live performances. The band captures the unique sounds and traditions of the Salento region, Italy’s isolated peninsula. Mauro Durante and his band utilize pizzica tarantata, an ancient tradition that claims to cure the deadly spider’s bite with frenzied trance dances.
As you can see in the video below for “Beddhu Stanotte,” the band seem like they are about light ablaze on the stage. Taken from La Notte Della Taranta, a festival dedicated to Southern Italian folk music and dances, this performance of Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino is outstanding. I can imagine they will be one of the most talked about groups performing at globalFEST 2012. Enjoy this amazing act.
