Our friends at Electric Cowbell Records released the full length debut album by Chicago’s tremendous 30-piece marching band, Mucca Pazza, earlier this year. Be sure to read our review of Safety Fifth if you haven’t already. Now Mucca Pazza are getting the remix treatment on a special 45RPM 7″ with artwork by grammy-nominated Kathleen Judge. This sweet little disc, available August 21st, features Brooklyn’s Greenwood Rhythm Coalition (NYC Trust) twisting around “Tube Sock Tango” and the UK’s Stockport bred drummer, producer and DJ Jon Kennedy mixing up “Boss Taurus.” The 7″ signs off with a 32-second drum corp cadence courtesy of Mucca Pazza’s kickin’ K12 percussion section on “Coolashell.”
The A-side starts things off with “Tube Sock Tango (GRC Remix),” featuring the Greenwood Rhythm Coalition pumping out some deconstructed bass which serves as the foundation for tropical percussion and lo-fi keyboards. The result is a big band cumbia unlike anything you’ve heard before. On the B-side, “Boss Taurus (Jon Kennedy Remix)” cooks up some down-tempo brass using over 20 tracks just to capture the horn section. The awesome “Coolashell (Drum Cadence)” is the perfect closer, banging out a deadly, albeit brief, beat. This 7″ is the perfect accompaniment to Safety Fifth, but don’t take my word for it. Listen to it above or at soundcloud. Order this gem before August 21st and Electric Cowbell Records will throw in 101 Things to Do in Bongolia, the compilation CD of their first year in 45’s, for free. You can’t beat that offer, so get out and pre-order your copy from the Electric Cowbell Records Store now.
