MonoMono – “The World Might Fall Over”
Give the Beggar a Chance

Give the Beggar a Chance is the debut album from Joni Haastrup’s band, MonoMono. Joni formed MonoMono in 1971 with his friend and bassist Baba Ken Okulolo, guitarist Jimmy Adams and percussionists Candido Obajimi and Friday Jumbo. This album departed from the ’60s soul covers typical in Nigeria at the time in favor of the jazz-rock fusion becoming popular. Written in London and recorded in Lagos, this record showcases Joni’s strong skills as a songwriter. “The World Might Fall Over” is a fine example of Joni’s talent on the keys with some excellent screaming to kick off the track. This record has been out of print for a while, but thanks to Soundway Records the album has been reissued with bonus tracks. The LP version comes with a bonus 12″ vinyl, so that alone should lead you to the store.
