Blitz the Ambassador is Samuel Bazawule. He was born in Accra, Ghana and attended the prestigious Achimota School. While he was there, he received numerous awards for his visual art. Samuel was turned on to hip hop when his brother played Public Enemy’s It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. After graduating school, he went into the studio and instantly achieved recognition as he was awarded best new artist at the 2000 Ghana Music Awards.
Upon moving to the United States in 2001, he attended Kent State University and received a bachelors degree in Business Administration. During this time, he developed his live act and started to open for rappers such as Rakim. Now he is based in Brooklyn and earlier this year, Blitz released one of the most exciting records of 2011 entitled Native Sun.
This record heaps on a heavy dose of live instrumentation with afrobeat and Ethiopian funk jazz sounds abound. Blitz’s bilingual raps are full of energy and style. “Dear Africa” is below and features the French sister duo Les Nubians on supporting vocals. For those who want to hear more, the entire album is available to stream on youtube.
