Turntables on Las Ramblas
Nickodemus, the Brooklyn-based DJ/Producer, is always on the move. Last June, we featured his Moon People album and now he’s back with another project, Turntables on Las Ramblas. Due to the success of NYC’s famous Turntables on the Hudson, Nickodemus has traveled around the world, bringing the global dance party with him. He’s already organized Turntables on the Thames (London), On the Nile (Cairo), On the Seine (France), On the Danube (Budapest), On the Rimac (Lima), and more. This time around, Nickodemus tackles one of the hottest nightlife scenes on the planet – Barcelona.
The monthly “Turntables on Las Ramblas” event in Barcelona was put together by Nickodemus with fellow DJs Sujinho, Pablo Sanchez and Andyloop. Barcelona is known for its late-night techno parties, but the eclectic mix of hip-hop, funk, house and soul stirred up with Latin, Afrobeat and Eastern European gypsy sounds, proved to be a welcome addition to the dance floor. The Turntables events have even included live West African percussion ensembles, samba batucada bands and New Orleans & Eastern Brass bands. Compiling some of the best tracks from these parties, Nickodemus has assembled Turntables on Las Ramblas on Wonderwheel Recordings.
Turntables on Las Ramblas will shake away those winter blues. With terrific contributions from Novalima (whose album Karimba we reviewed last year), Nickodemus, Los Chicos Altos vs. Palo Q’sea, Wagner Po and others, this set will liven up any gray day. Featuring fourteen tracks of deadly grooves, this collection comes at the right time as it gets lighter and warmer in the northern hemisphere.
