Grant Phabao Afrofunk Arkestra – “Ogun (7″ edit)”

Here is the B-side from the terrific split 7″ single put together by Electric Cowbell Records and Paris DJs. We already featured CSC Funk Band’s tasty afro-funk contribution, “Catcher’s Mitt.” Now let’s flip the 45 and turn our attention to Paris’ Grant Phabao Afrofunk Arkestra.

“Ogun” is a sweaty, Afrobeat cookout and all of your friends are invited. The hearty horns and heavy, driving beat will shake you. This dance floor monster features Franck Biyong on bass, with Nicolas Baudino (from Franck’s Massak band) and Zakari Frantz (from The Souljazz Orchestra) respectively on tenor and alto sax. Franck Biyong and Grant Phabao have been working together for a year now on Franck’s upcoming album with his new band the Diamane Bantu Messengers, on the upcoming Paris DJs Soundsystem compilation Dis Is Good For You – Tropical Grooves and Afrofunk International to be released next month, and on the Grant Phabao Afrofunk Arkestra album scheduled for early 2013.

You can’t go wrong with CSC Funk Band’s “Catcher’s Mitt” b/w Grant Phabao Afrofunk Arkestra’s “Ogun” 45 rpm single. Both tracks are strong, instrumental stunners which will have you praising your turntable for years to come. Pick up the limited edition 7″ from Volcom Ent. at Electric Cowbell Records or Paris DJs. Don’t hesitate as this baby is flying off the shelves.
