The Parliaments 1969

Here is another video pulled from my favorites. This performance in 1969 is right before the band had to change their name to Parliament, but most of the original members of Funkadelic are present as well. The first part of this t.v. performance can be seen here. Unfortunately there is a bar blocking a 1/4 of the view which is a shame considering the strong finish of this show. The band rocks through “Friday Night August the 14th” and then jams into “Mommy, What’s a Funkadelic?” The whole time the dancers are up on stage and George Clinton is whistling away. Eddie Hazel is tearing it up with his playing and by the end the band just crashes into noise. At this point, Eddie mutilates his guitar in a way that would not look out of place on a Woodstock stage. Most of the operation takes place in the black bar blocking part of this video from view, which almost adds to the mystery and intrigue, especially since Eddie is shadowed in the darkness the entire performance.
