B-side – “I Won’t Lie”

Brownout is busy supporting Oozy, which was featured on Splinters & Candy back in May. Known as the funk side project of Grupo Fantasma, Brownout has been gaining a lot of attention since they released their third album over a month ago. Now they’ve released a 7″ single on Canada’s Kept Records, who also released a 7″ single by Seattle’s Polyrhythmics last year. The Brownout single features “Flaximus” b/w “I Won’t Lie,” two heavy hitters from their Oozy album on Nat Geo Music.

The new single received praise on Okayplayer last week. Brownout are at their desert-psych-funk best on this single. “Flaximus” rumbles with driving instrumental Latin funk while “I Won’t Lie” delivers some nice vocals with grooving guitars and steady percussion. These sides are perfect for summer with gritty, psychedelic fuzz & solid brass in full effect. Listen to the single above or at Kept Records’ soundcloud page. The 7″ is a limited pressing of 500 copies, so get over to Kept Records or your record store and don’t delay.
