Bibi Tanga & the Selenites – “It’s the Earth that Moves”
Dunya

This group is the mastermind of Bibi Tanga and Professeur Inlassable. According to Nat Geo Music who released Dunya last year, “the duo forges a stunningly original new sound and creates a space where Afro-futurism meets steampunk, Fela Kuti jams with Sidney Bechet and Marcel Duchamp gets down to Chic.” Bibi grew up in the Central African Republic and that is where the name Dunya comes from, which means “existence” in the Sango language of his homeland. He was born in Paris before settling in Bangui, the capital of Central African Republic at age 2. However, he was forced to return to Paris following the coup d’état in Central African Republic. That is where his musical education began as his father had lots of records from all over Africa. Combining those influences with the western likes of James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley give Bibi Tanga & the Selenites a unique sound that comes from influences found all over the globe. Enjoy this beautiful track entitled “It’s the Earth that Moves.”
